The partners of Numbers Game Winery have a love of fine wine and a long history of working together; mostly in finance businesses. Some of them worked together in an asset management company where they used mathematical models to make long horizon investments in equities, fixed income, and foreign currencies in the major global markets. Numbers Game Winery continues this tradition of excellence in the more liquid markets.
In 2009 Steve Matthiasson signed on as our Winemaker and has been perfecting the blends and stylistic choices ever since. Steve has chosen for Numbers Game a few select premier vineyard sites though out the Napa Valley, most of which he personally oversees the farming practices. We feel so fortunate to have signed him on before his meteoric rise.
Six time James Beard Nominated and celebrated as The San Francisco Chronicle’s 2014 Winemaker of the Year, Steve Matthiasson brings to Numbers Game his expertise on vineyard management and winemaking. Matthiasson’s experience has placed him as a leader in sustainable vineyard development in Napa Valley. His quality winemaking has been celebrated by Food & Wine, The Wine Spectator, The San Francisco Chronicle and The Wall Street Journal, as well as being a main focus in the book The New California Wine by Jon Bonne. Matthiasson began making wine in Napa Valley in 2003.
